| DANCE-MOVEMENT
THERAPY
" Movement is the means of symbolic and concrete expression of thoughts and feelings, many times in situations when the words are not for different reasons available." Dance movement therapy merges from the field of psychotherapy into somatic therapies. It uses, as many other psychotherapeutic methods do, free associations, here in movement, to work with unconscious motives of the client. Dance movement therapy is useful mainly with clients suffering from early based unresolved conflicts, for clients whose self-attitude is better through body and movement , and for clients with somatic therapies, where is obvious, that somatic therapy is complicated by unresolved subconscious conflicts. Clients with higher creativity may also relate better with dance movement therapy. Basic thought of dance movement therapy is the idea of reciprocity of relationships of somatic and psychological processes and its mutual capacity to influence each other. It is not meant to be the training and development of artistic form (client does not have to be familiar with any of dance techniques), and does not serve to recreational goals. Dance therapist focuses on movement behavior of the client and works with expressive, communicative and adapting character of the movement. In the same time, movement and its parametres are the means of evaluation, following the progress and of therapeutic intervention. Nevertheless, "verbal language" is used in sessions as well. Radana Syrovátková, MD, BC-DMT uses this form of psychotherapy for almost 10 years. She is trained and certified by ADTA ( American Dance Therapy Association),and has wide experience with adult clients using dance therapy in psychotherapy, she also worked with children in day care centre for orphanage children (VHLED), with mothers after delivery and babies under 6 months (early prevention focus) and is currently designing group for women with functional infertility. She teaches dance movement therapy at PVŠPSS, FTVS, TANTER and in her own workshops. She is establishing member of TANTER - Czech Dance Therapy Association. |
